Venomous Snakes in NC

As the weather continues to warm, snakes will increase their activity, warming themselves in the Sun during cooler mornings and seeking shelter during the peak of the day.

North Carolina is home to six poisonous snakes, only three are known to range in the northern part of the state: Copperheads, Cottonmouth and the Timber Rattlesnake. The most common being the Copperhead. Fortunately it is easily identified by the "Hershey Kiss" shape seen on its body.
