More about the Copperhead

I wanted to follow up with some more information about the most commonly encountered venomous snake in NC, the Copperhead. Copperheads are more often found in the woods but do range into fields as well. Wooded neighborhoods can be excellent hunting grounds for them because of the availability of food. They primarily eat mice, frogs, small birds and insects.

When a Copperhead is threatened it will vibrate its tail, and will strike if it feels it's in danger. Copperhead venom is dangerous but rarely fatal. If you are bit call 911 immediately for medical care.
